hi all has anyone ever heard of a diesel RUNOWAY in a D24 ENGINE ?

Yes. The nub on the IP fuel collar broke off, and the fuel collar slid to the WOT position.

jpliddy what was the reason for your question, out of curiosity? Did you have a runaway occur?
In addition to a fuel pump failure causing a runaway it could also be caused by excess engine oil being pumped into the intake manifold, this could be caused by a turbo bearing failure or by engine oil passing through the crankcase vent system due to some combination of heavy engine blowby/overfilled crankcase/restricted air filter. All of these things are possible but very uncommon. It is much more common for the engine to be destroyed by overheating, which can easily occur due to even a small cooling system problem if the driver does not have a functional temperature gauge. Have you fixed yours yet?
