Jason's old car
Well here it is. I finally got my hands on it. As far as I know it went from Jason to three people before I bought it. It's been beat and abused. It had a bad rod knock and I suspected a rod bearing being shot.
Some of the ghetto stuff going on from previous owners. So I pulled the motor to tear it down and see the damage. Everything looked good other than one of the rods had no rod bearings. At all. There wasn't even any sign of them in the oil pan. Not sure where they went... Crank looks good considering there was no rod bearing. Rod even looks good for how bad it knocked... All tore down ready to go to the machine shop. |

Wow, no rod bearing? This is the first I have heard of a lower end failure of a D24T. How did the rest of bearings look like?

Everything else looked good. Mains, rods, pistons, and cylinders all looked good. Sending the block out to be hot tanked and have everything checked. I wonder if there is a plugged oil passage which spun the bearing? Idk. Hoping to get away with just polishing the crank, new rings and bearings. Don't know if that's going to happen.

I would suspect a bad injector spring on the one cylinder that had no bearing, the bad or broken spring in the injector would cause it to be overly advanced in that one cylinder, thrashing that bearing. Or if IRC Jason had a heck of a time getting that engine primed with oil after being rebuilt, maybe that bearing was damaged long ago..

Jason's Old Car
I would like to use a Cat fuel filter like Jason used but the threads are different size. Can you look and see what Jason used to get it to work?(pic's)

So I ran into my first problem. Prechambers are loose on two cylinders. Anyone have experience with this issue? Been doing some research on it, and I can't find much info on it. Thought about peening the head to take up some space or welding and machining it out? |

Doesn't the headgasket/block hold them in? And there is a ridge to keep them from rotating?
I have heard about staking them in 5 places, as in a 5-pointed star, the top positioned at the precup hole so as to avoid interfering with the headgasket fire ring. Did the headgasket leak oil out down the side of the block?

That's the downfall to these motors and high HP. My last head that I sent out to the rebuilder needed three of the chambers replaced as they where cracked (this head came from one of my built engines that was running a maxed 10mm pump and super 60 turbo with large FMIC pushing around 25lbs).
The builder I use for my heads has many years working on these heads, they always pull the chambers and re-set them in the head. Depending how bad your head is you might be able to get a different chamber to fit snugly in the head. The builder I use is Aluminum head rebuilders in Portland Oregon.

Thanks for the lead on that shop. I'll give them a call. I guess I'd like to find a more permanent fix for the precups. |
