I have run 3200 RPM @77 for days on end. More than RPM, I heat up if I sustain EGTs over 1200 or so. If your temps are under control, you can run at 4000 and not hurt anything. Our RPM characteristics as far as I can tell are the same as the 1.6 4 cyl VW motors. Peak torque is 2700, (your turbo may change that some)so IMO that is the sweet spot, but usually I'm not patient enough to go that slow....need another gear.

Yep, these like to rev, and you can spin it as fast as you want for as long as you like, within reason. They don't have an especially long stroke and the whole valvetrain is set up for use at much higher speeds than our motors will ever see, since it's all the same layout as in a gas Audi or VW that spins to 6.5k or more. In the Volvo, the stock gears are pretty short so cruising at 80+ means the tach reading is up there. As long as the motor is straight and healthy (valve clearances, cooling, etc), it will happily do that for hours without complaint.

Thanks for posting those pics and info, I'm one of those folk that has a VGT turbo sitting outside due to not being too sure how I want to control it. Where are you located?

Sweet setup. The surviving d24-powered rare LT trucks and heavy campers would definitely benefit from such.
