John's '84 245 D24 M46
I can't believe I finally bought a 240.
I've wanted one for about the past 3 years. First step is to get it running. Next: flathood & grill, body work and paint, slam it, deep dish wheels, tint. I know 80 some odd BHP from '84 is really bad, but I'm tickled pink :-P Here are some pics, they aren't great and completely out of context, but I thought they were cewl. $450 by the way. Check out my pleather, not my shifter knob Hopefully I don't end up hating this decision hah. Thanks for checking it out, John

Nice, M46 D24! heall yeah.!! Hope you get it running. start soaking the cylinders with a mixture of PBlaster and ATF rotate engine counter clockwise a couple revolutions and refill and let soak for a couple days. then by and hand and rotate counter clockwise again a couple revolutions then forward by hand. If it doesn't hydrolock then you're good to try and fire it up.

Or how are you suggesting that I coat the cylinder walls? What is ATF by the way?

Nice looking car. I have always liked that all business profile!
If you pull the glow plugs and use whats been suggested, I prefer Marvel Mystery oil, then it will free up. Leave the plugs out while you turn the engine. That way it cannot hydrolock. ATF = Automatic Transmission Fluid. Steve |

Looks like you've got a project there, but it will be unique when your done! Not many volvo diesels getting restored or even fixed up much thats for sure... Keep us updated with pics as you make progress.
I'm moving this thread to the "garage" section since its going to be more of a build thread. Jason

I wasn't sure what to do with the glow plugs, but that makes sense. Yea, I knew ATF was automatic trans fluid, but I wasn't sure if that was an acronym for something diesel related Pardon my newb-ness. Quote:
The guy gave me a bunch of odds and ends to help restore this boat, but they are all relatively useless haha. I will definitely do my best to restore this thing, and I guess do a little resto-mod work while I am at it And yea, the pics, they will be plentiful. I am a digital film editor, so I will probably do a couple videos as well. Thanks, Jason. I will definitely keep this thread from dying Are there any Volvo Diesel guys around the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton are of PA? I will be going to harry's-u-pull it quite often now, so it would be cool to meet up with fellow enthusiasts.

IT TURNS OVER!!
And all the electrical stuff works, besides the crappy stock head unit. I am so impressed that this car has been so resilient after being owned by such a friggen nudnik. I guess it has a small fuel leak, so that will need to be addressed. But as far as this weekends plans go: Drain whats left of the fluids, and clean it like it has never been cleansed before or at least, in this past owners time of ownership. And get the title transfered to me. Also, have to give my 854 an oil change that I have been putting off because of the weather. I'm just at about 2900-3k, and I'm not planning on letting this car die, being that it is my daily driver. You guys have no idea how excited I am about finally owning a 245 And I really never in my wildest dreams thought that it would be diesel!

When you say turns over do you mean started up? or just cranks over and not start?

I only cranked it a bit though, I didn't want it to start up completely. It needs all of the fluid flushed and obviously fuel To me, this is a good start. It might not be that special to anyone else, but I am starting to feel better about this purchase every time I look at it. I still have, and will have, my 854 as my daily driver, so this is just my project until I feel like it is completed and road worthy.
