Default 240/740 bellhousing/ clutch

Does anybody know if the 740/760 and the 240 bellhousings and clutches are the same? I'm going to be replacing my worn out d24 with a d24t hopefully in my 83 244. Also who supplies a good clutch kit? thanks..

The flywheels and clutches are the same. The stock one is made by Sachs and is very nice to use, and also stands up to a fair amount of power and lasts a long time. If you are going to go nuts with modifications you may need a stronger clutch but if that is a case, you will also need further reinforcement elsewhere since the combination of added torque and a harder biting clutch will blow up other components in the drivetrain, as others on here have found out... see Jason's posts. If you are going to be running a stock or mildly warmed up D24T a stock Sachs clutch and stock M46 will be perfectly fine, and that alone will constitute a major performance increase over a worn out NA D24.

The 200 and 700 bellhousings are not the same, but if you already have a manual trans in your 240, you already have the right bellhousing, just bolt the D24T up (after making necessary mods to fit in your 240, oil pan, turbo drain etc). At the shop where I work in Ballard, we have two D24Ts that have been modified to go into 240s, each in a different way. You may want to come by and take a look to give you ideas of how it can be done.

If you need a 240 D24 bellhousing I have one I can sell you, but you should already have one in your car unless you are converting auto to stick as part of the project.

Where did you run across the two D24T engines you found? Did you buy them both?

I bought both the engines from S&K sons inc. In Burien. I also bought a 1986 740 GLE from him with the D24t that had 97,000 miles on it. It had not been tabbed since 1994! Runs and drives good, its my commuter as I drive 90 miles round trip. He also has another volvo for sale, 1985 760 D24T with 14x,xxx miles. Lots of other good stuff too... D20T engines and parts, lots of the VW1.6 diesels also.
My 240 has the manual trans, and my D24T are complete from pan to valve cover.
Whats diffrent between the 740/760 bellhousings and the 240's?

LMAO

The D24 in the 240 sits at a slant, the D24T in the 7 series sits straight up. The engine is so tall they had to slant it to fit under the hood of the smaller body.

There's one thing I was never clear on when it comes to stuffing a D24T engine into a 240. Maybe someone who's done the swap can answer. Is there a clearance issue between the turbo and shock tower? If so, what do people do to work around it?
