Default Sending Unit Help

This should be an easy one for you guys. The original tank and sending unit in my car was verrrry... customized... I am not sure what the proper routing is for all the hoses now. I have looked over the greenbook diagrams but I am still not completely sure...

1.) The sending unit has three tubes on it. The longest is the delivery to the engine, the middle is the return, and the short one is the vent? Just looking to confirm on this.
2.) Why does the return tube have the large end on it? Can I cut this off and use the same size gas line for everything?
3.) Where does the vent route to? Should I just cap it off?\
4.) Can I get rid of the "roll-over valve" it looks to be in very bad shape on mine.
