Default Lockup converter... Can you force it to lock?

Well, here goes, the first post!

I have read that the auto trans on the turbo diesel locks at 57mph.. Is it possible to get it to lock at a lower speed? I haven't been able to find much info on how it locks, is it electric, as in can I just wire in a switch? Any info on how this works would be great.

For that matter I would be interested in any information I can get my hands on about the auto trans to familiarize myself with it.
