Default Pyrometer / EGT Probe Install Location

I'm looking to install a Pyrometer/EGT Gauge (Exhaust Gas Temperature) into my 1982 240 D24 (non-turbo) Where is the best place to mount the probe?

Everything I've read says that it should be mounted as close to the engine block as possible in the exhaust manifold. The reason that I am confused is that the D24 has 2 exhaust manifolds which come together below the engine. Should I try to mount at this meeting point, in the center of one of the 2 manifolds or near a specific cylinder on the manifolds?

Either where the tubes intersect at the turbo flange or install an EGR blockoff plate and tap that.

It's a non-turbo engine.

I would install it on the rear manifold close to the exhaust flange so you can get the temp from those three cylinders. No real good way to get temperatures from all six cylinders as the Y in the exhaust is too far away. You could always install two gauges and monitor cylinders 1-3 and 4-6. That might be interesting!
