Default Diesel m90 tranny from a 95' 940 with 3rd and 5th gears missing

Hello, I have said gearbox. I took a peek inside and it looks like the synchros are gone. Wondering if someone is even remotely interested.

Hi, it sounds like you have a nice example of a D24 powered 940.
Over here in the UK I've known people to have their M90s rebuild by specialist transmission shops.
A lot of the lads on here are based in the US which I believe had very limited numbers of the M90 and maybe none with the D24 bellhousing, therefore it maybe difficult to find M90 specific advice on here although I do believe the petrol version will be very similar so maybe some more advice could be found on the Turbobricks forum.

From my knowledge the M90 is a strong gearbox especially at stock horse powers and providing the gearbox isn't abused. Perhaps a previous owner of your car was a little rough?

The other important thing about the M90 to bare in mind is the oil which you may already know, The oil that Volvo made for the M90 I think I'm right in saying has been discontinued and therefore it is important to get the right equivalent. More info on this should be available on the UK Volvo owners forum or again Turbobricks.

If memory serves me correctly I've seen several second hand Volvo parts on UK eBay that are coming from Lithuania so it maybe the best option to try and find a second hand gearbox to swap yours with?
Hope this is helpful
Many thanks Tristan

Hello, thank you for the tips. Appreciate it.
And yes the previous owner didn't take good care it looked and still looks like a total beater because of the god awful peeling paint that was done.
I'm using a m46 box from a donor for now. I have sourced another m90 locally and currently just don't have the time to swap it in.
Just tried shooting a message because no one locally wants it and I think I will scrap it. Make a centering tool for installing the clutch while I'm at it.
Thanks again

No problem.
It's a shame the car has had a hard life, I don't like seeing things go to waste but I don't know how big the Volvo community is over there? It sounds like the car is in good hands now though.
If you're interested in posting some bits over here I'm currently on the lookout for the shifter linkage that goes with the M90, I have one in the shed waiting to go on my 760 Diesel but I have no linkage. Just wondering if you were interested in selling it to me? I've attached a photo, the highlighted bit is what I don't have but the whole thing would do if you didn't want to take it apart.
Thanks again
Tristan

Hello, sorry for the late reply.
I'd be willing to sell it to you, I've got two of these whole assemblys laying around. One of them will go in my car. I can dissassemble it and ship, but I'm pretty sure the shipping cost will be quite expensive.

Okay, if it's not too heavy I would have everything other than the gear stick itself as I have one of those. I'll send a photo later of what I have to give you a better idea. Would you be able to get a quote for shipping and I'll see what I can do. Would you want very much for the linkage itself?
Cheers

Sure, I'll get a quote and write back to you. I'm not sure how much to ask, no idea what these go for. I won't offer a high price, it's not in perfect condition so I'd ask lower than it typically goes for.

That would be great. People round here don't really sell the linkage separately hence why I asked if you were willing to sell it. I would say around 20-30 GBP or 25-35 USD.
Thanks again
