Default Volvo 760 D24Tic Estate - UK

Thought I'd finally put a post up of my car now the forum is back!

It's a UK 1990 760 TD (facelift model).

Spec from factory is:

- Facelift front end
- ZF22HP4 4 speed auto box
- Intercooler
- Electric sunroof
- Electric Climate Control & Aircon
- Tan Leather seats
- Electric drivers seat
- Nivomat rear shocks
- 3.73 non-locking solid axle

Here's some pics when I got it:

Since I bought it I've made a few improvements:

Engine:

- Headgasket went, so fitted an Ajusa MLS 2 notch gasket and new bolts (still TTY bolts)
- Timing belt/water pump/idler all replaced
- IP timing set to 0.98mm
- Injectors rebuilt with Monark 293 nozzles
- MBC fitted and adjusted to 16psi
- New cold start waxstat
- Ground off collar and screwed main screw in a few turns
- Reground the fuel pin
- N/A inlet manifold
- Rear silencer removed

Suspension:

- Spax rear 40mm lower springs
- Front diesel springs chopped to 40mm lower
- Bilstein TC shocks all round (getting rid of failed Nivos)
- Swapped front 21mm anti roll bar for 22mm
- Added rear 19mm anti roll bar
- H&R 25mm DRM spacers
- 17x7" Volvo Titan wheels
- Front 215/45/17 Hankook V12; Rear 225/45/17 Goodyear Eagle;
- Poly saucer bushes
- Poly bushes on rear of track control arms (where they mount to rear part of inner wheel arch)

Here's a few pics of how it looks now, hopefully I'll get some better ones up at some point:

Looks good Ian!

It sits really well dropped 40mm on the Titans.

Hopefully I'll be turning my fuel and boost up soon too!

Have to get my own thread up soon.

Steve

Handsome car, the hard work paid off! How do you like the Poly saucer bushes (presuming these are the front diag. rod conical bushings)? Any bad behaviors?

Smart looking wagon! Love the color combo. Wish we would have gotten those later model diesels here in the US -- the interior trim is worlds better and the later front ends look much more modern than our diesels with the quad sealed beams. Getting the hydraulic lifter TIC motor would have been nice too... Yours is still the only TIC I have ever seen without EGR!

What kind of difference did you notice after installing the NA manifold?

Thanks for all the comments!

Poly saucer bushes made a massive difference - especially when braking - no more tugging and "shimmying" when you brake over a bump.

Felt a bit more torquey I think with the N/A manifold...but I'm not sure if that's just a placebo effect though. Didn't make a massive difference, but then I think the standard TIC manifold is probably a lot better than the standard turbo manifold to start with.

Mine isn't hydrailic lifters - think they came in the 940 TD only over here (a year after mine) - I've still got the normal lifters, which over here I struggle to find the shims for without paying the earth.

Yeh, I was quite suprised to have no EGR, and it's not been blanked by someone either - the exhaust manifold has a casting mark for it, but it's just not drilled out.

Default Lovely job.

The car looks gorgeous - I'd like to get my heap up to that standard one day...

Re the shims - I had a similar problem trying to get them for my VW Santana 5 cyl petrol but found a rather surprising source of help. My local VW dealer, when asked about them, said they had a full workshop set with several of each size in. As they had such little use for them these days, they just let me borrow the box F.O.C so long as I put back in the shims I no longer needed.

I don't know for sure if they're the same ones on the D24 but I wouldn't be surprised, knowing VAG.

If they are the same and you get stuck again, let me know and I'll check if the offer still stands...

(Poor old Santana died 18 mths ago now...)

Boots.

I used a longer hose and went off the fitting on the turbo compressor housing itself.
