I thought RedArrow said the set he was looking at measured 52", no? The question about 48" was from a few months ago.
One way to think about this: if it's a Volvo system, then it pretty well has to be sized specifically to fit either a 200 or 700/900 series or both, since those are the only two platforms with rain gutters sold by Volvo in the US anytime in the last 40 years. The 2 is a little more slender than the 7, so I suppose it could be that Volvo dealers sold two different rack systems, one to fit 200 and one for 700 -- but it seems a little unlikely since otherwise they would have been identical. The measurements sound a little close but roughly correct. More details wouldn't hurt but I suspect the stuff will work, assuming it is what it's described as being. One idea might be to ask the seller what kind of Volvo he last used it on? |

52 should be more than enough for a 7/9 by my measurements. I'd even be pretty confident about 50.

YOU GUYS HAVE EAGLE EYES! Of course you are all experts at roof racks too. Thanks for your helpful comments.
Square bars 52 inch long, lockable by Thule;Volvo labeled gutter mount type gear, rubber parts, locks, plugs, original 3 keys all there. It definitely WAS the right setup, all original, just as v8 described it. Picked up in Virginia, it ended up on my brick, at first came with a Volvo OE (Thule) luggage carrier type of basket (smaller, later sold for $100) I added a big flat cargo bag that has wheels & an all-around zip+locks+a cheat idp sticker at front.... then later I hunted down a bigger basket made by Kurt, it came with an extension making it even longer, over 62inches max.. First I polished those aluminium crossbar parts, I painted Volvo logo red, etc... but later decided to dip them in black to match overall trim of the car. The basket is very useful, have been using it on fishing trips, camping, shlepping furniture, even slept on top and it was comfy. Very stable, strong, can load over 200lbs on top, np. I usualy step on it to strap my junky gear down. I found the right Thule plugs for the bars, cleaned, painted and/or dipped all parts, fitted setup with stronger hardware and really enjoying them ever since, they look great (offroad style) and they are all lockable. Basket also locked to crossbars. Jeepers offered me to buy it off the brick. I`m wondering how to sneak some money out to buy a LED spot/fog bar onto basket, above or behind fairing. to make them go crazy. It doesn`t whistle much at 65, thanks to the Kurt fairing which will have a red prancing moose sticker available from www.davebarton.com. Last edited by RedArrow; 09-07-2014 at 04:37 PM. |
