There is no boost limit without an intercooler except EGTs. The pistons will basically melt from the heat before you reach any mechanical limits from the pressure.

I dunno about that... Maybe if the engine didn't have stretch bolts, or if it has a metal head gasket. These cars blew the head gaskets in stock form, which is why Volvo came out with the MLS head gasket.
