d24 swap from vwlt45 to volvo 740

Hello, i have volvo 740 with b230ft, i use it as beater. About a year ago I rebuilded the engine, it was going great till now, engine broke once again and I am tired of fixing all the time, so I had idea of swaping d24tic in it, because I have heard they are more reliable. Around my area there aren’t any spare 7 or 940 diesel engines, but i have found couple vw lt vans that have d24t, so i wanted your help…
1) are they any different than the d24 that goes in volvo’s (mounting, specs and that kind of stuff)
2) what about transmission? do I need to buy transmission from other diesel volvo or my m46/od works fine?
3) is it even worth?

Engine mounts probably different, power steering pump, alternator mounting probably different, air cleaner probably different, coolant overflow tank, radiator probably different, hoses probably different.

M46 transmission will work but bellhousing (for D24) is different. Since you are in Europe it should be easy to get the M90, a far far better transmission than the M46.

Can't answer that for you. Depends on your skills, available tools, time value, desire, etc. Might be easier to find a used 9xx with D24TIC, they were sold in Europe.
