Oil Temp Sender + D24T Fan
Looking for an Oil Temperature sender which fits in the oil pan drain hole of a D24 NA.
Also looking for the radiator fan from a D24T. |

You are looking for the entire 700 series D24T fan assembly with both the plastic fan blade and the viscous fan clutch?
You might try just grabbing one from any gas 4-cylinder 240 or pre-1992 740/940 (NA or turbo) in a junkyard. There are very slight differences between the gas and diesel fans but not enough to matter in terms of function. I don't know if the clutch fan will fit on a 240 though -- might not be enough clearance to the radiator. I think someone tried it before and made it work somehow, but it might not have been a bolt-in affair, seem to remember a little custom work was involved. The oil temp sender might be a tough find, probably was available as an original Volvo accessory from their catalog, but good luck finding one of those now. Probably are a few sitting on shelves around the globe but likely not where they will be easily tracked down unfortunately. However, this might not be too hard of a part to improvise or get fabricated yourself. A standard VDO temp sensor might feed the gauge that I assume you have. You could have a machine shop drill and cut threads into the existing drain plug for the sensor of your choice. Or could do it yourself, but would want to use a mill or drill press because if you're using a sensor with straight threads and a crush washer for sealing, the hole will have to be perfectly true to ensure the washer doesn't leak.

I'm just looking for the plastic fan.
I have an Aisin tropical fan clutch, which I would like to install into my '82 240, but the regular D24 Fan's bolt pattern doesn't match the clutch. I picked-up an (original?) oil temp sender used about a year ago and installed it into my wagon. Now I'm just looking for another to install into my sedan. Would like to try to find an original before I go to a machine shop. |

If you just want the plastic fan, you can get them new OE for a cheap price. Probably best to just go that route rather than try to source a used one made of aged plastic.
RockAuto has them for about $30: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...288379&jsn=380 Probably can find them elsewhere also, Amazon etc. Out of curiosity, what kind of oil temperature readings do you see in regular driving on the gauge you have installed in your other D24 car? I would not think the naturally aspirated engines would ever manage to get the oil particularly warm, no turbocharger or piston oil squirters to pull heat into the oil like on the turbo motors. Not to say that having the gauge would not be a good thing -- more temperature information on the dash is always a good thing, and it would be neat to be able to observe it -- but I would just be surprised if a D24 could ever get oil temps close enough to the danger zone to need to watch it closely. I would guess by the time the oil got up there the coolant would have to already be way too hot, or gone. Interested to hear your observations though.

After 1-2 hours of driving it hovers around 160F-180F...maybe 200F if it's particularly fast highway driving.
