ARP studs
Hi
I have been searching the forum for torque instructions for the nuts on the ARP studs. But I can't seem to find what i am looking for. There are two kinds of headgaskets, MLS and fiber. According to the greenbook, there are also two different procedures for torquing the head. Do any of you guys have the torque-data for the "ARP solution", both fiber and MLS? Thanks! Dennis |

That's a good question for ARP tech support:

Okay, I will ask them. I assumed that since there has been so much talk about the ARP's on this site, I hoped that somebody would share their knowledge
I will share the information here in this thread, when ARP answers the question. Dennis |

I would imagine the torque procedures for the studs with fiber and MLS gaskets would be similar to any procedures ARP has for the 4cyl VW engines in their different versions: old 1.6L diesel would have had a fiber gasket and 1.9TD and 1.9TDI would have MLS. Any difference between the procedures for each gasket type with those engines should more or less transfer to the 2.4L I6 version since the hardware is identical and the engines are of similar design (using the 6cyl torque pattern of course). The ARP stud and nut torque specs for the 4cyl engines are probably much easier to find and might give a rough guide. That method might be what other folks have used.
However, confirming the correct procedure and specs firsthand with ARP is a great idea. Please do let us know what answers you find out.

ARP have replied.
"Hi Dennis, Thanks for the inquiry. Our torque spec is the same even when using different gaskets. We base our torque specs on the material/diameter of the stud and the application it is being applied to." They didn't mention anything about the torque specs, so i assume it would be the same as the 1.6 or the 1.9. |
