Default Fuel Sending Unit "repair"

Hopefully this is right section to put this in...

I just found out today that my fuel gauge actually does work! It's just the sending unit that is the problem. I had already tested it once and it seemed to be working properly, but apparently not.

I took it out and took it apart and it is extremely simple. The top strip is the resistant strip and apparently it has lost its resistance. Anyone know how I might be able to repair this one (ie. add resistance). It's a shot in the dark, but I thought someone might have an idea.

I don't know how much they are but I'm sure it's not cheap.
