Anyone near Boston Mass area?
I recently picked up a 1988 Pinzgauer 718K with a D24t engine, and I'm new to the D24t engine world...
I'm going to have to set the timing of the motor and the injection pump and from the videos I've watched looks to be fairly involved at least tool wise. Is there anyone local-ish to the Boston area say 100 miles that has the tools, knowledge and time to help sort this out? I'd pay for the shop time but at this point I'm just trying to find a local community that can work on this engine. Thanks Brady |

Welcome, sounds like a great rig. What is the background on the truck? RHD or LHD? Automatic trans? 718K means 6x6, correct?
There is actually a strong contingent in the New England area of folks who are well versed in these engines. Member RedArrow is in the NYC area, and member DieselScout is in western NY State I believe. Above all, though, you should get in touch with Tom Bryant who is located in southern Maine. Tom is probably the foremost authority on the D24T engine in the US, maybe the world. Lucky for you he is not far away and would probably enjoy the new challenge of seeing one of these engines in a different environment (as opposed to an old Volvo I mean). He would probably be happy to either help you learn your way around the motor yourself or might perform the work for you if he has the time and inclination and you want to hire him for it. Your average shop, even a Euro specialist, will have never seen this engine before and have no idea what to do with it. At best they'll tell you they don't want to touch it ... at worst they'll dive in without correct tools/know-how and do serious damage. Many stories of it on here. The community is small but deep and folks will want to help. Post any questions here and we'll do our best to answer. If you don't find Tom send me a PM and I will forward his email and phone #. He is not usually active on this board but participates in the old D24 email list, and I believe his contact info is somewhere on his blog page. As you can see his interests run beyond D24 engines as well. https://thosbryant.wordpress.com/
