Here in England its very much the same with the D24 as it is with the 5.7 diesel's over there. You either love em or hate em, there is no in-between
When I bought my first Volvo Diesel it was pretty much the same reading as when I got my first Olds Diesel. Let it warm up a little, no full throttle work till fully warmed up and keep plenty of water and fresh oil in it.
I've had a 6.2 diesel over here in a 1982 Caprice wagon and I've also had over here two Ford Econoline vans, one 6.9 and one 6.9 turbo Non of which Ive had any real trouble with.
