Crank vent routing question??

How important is it that the crank vent tube needs to go back into the intake? or can it just be vented to atmosphere?

Venting to the atmoshere wont hurt anything, but you will want to have some kind of breather filter hooked up. I have seen some people just run it down and point it at the ground, but if the engine has a bunch of blow by that will get real messy. The cummins B series engines came that way from the factory in the dodge trucks, that is with the vent tube just dumping down towards the ground.

I havent worried about it with my 740 but on my TDI I ran the CCV to a TEE, at the bottom, of the TEE I ran an elaphant hose with a drain plug and the side of the TEE went back to the EGR area. It has worked great in keeping the little bit of oil out of the EGR area.

Could be done for the 740 too.
