5 cylinder

I been diggin through some old green books an found one for 240 d20 and d24 anyone seen a five pot 240? probly made in Turkey or somethin, like they got a 1700cc red block. the sump and stuff from one of them and motor from early s80 would make more room for mega intercooler. I guess thats why they never developed the six any more they just made the five cylinder more powerfull and ditched the six

m-reg,

There were D20 and D20T 5-cylinder Volvos, naturally the 6-cylinder variant was more popular. These same engines were found in the Audi 5000 (and perhaps other Audi models not offered in the US), and I believe the VW Transporter (T3?).

Eventually VW made a 2.4 liter 5-cylinder direct-injected turbo diesel, however the model "name" escapes me.

I read in another forum that the D20 powered Volvo 240's were sold as taxis in Norway mainly, in NA form. The 5 cylinders engine with direct injection that you mention was used in the 850 Diesel in Europe, and later replaced with the Volvo D5.

My uncle had many early 240 diesel taxi and all was wit the six cylinder. i think the five cylinder is mostly in finland. My dad says the five cylinder is a little slow. And when he says a car is slow is it really slow because he drive a datsun 2,2 diesel daily and he says the d6 is fast:D

The 5cyl engine is rare, its without turbo, and was made for Finland and Italy, thats because the taxes ( skatt ) cars with engine over 2 litre was expensive as hell.

And thats because Italy got the lovely B204FT/GT engine thats produce 190hp or 200hp.
