My Volvo 740 D24T *renamed*

Hi everybody :)

Thanks for activation in the Forum - I will introduce myyself later in another Thread !.
Iīm from Austria (Europe),so excuse my bad english -, had bought my second Volvo D24T- with 120.000 km on it.

(My first D24T was killed by the Timing belt- OK the engine had 645.000 kmīs on it :)

I do Standard Maintenance when i get the car (past 4 weeks): Waterpump, Timing belts, other Belts, Heater Control Valve, New Thermostat, Changed all fluids
(Rear Axle, M46 Transmission, Engine Oil and so on...)
Timed the Injection Pump, Replaced Cold Start device (I was working for Bosch ...)

My skills are Advanced (I can rebuild an engine...)

Now my Problem: We have Winter: And my Volvo wonīt give me Warm/HOT air...

Fluid levels are Correct, Head Gasket is OK (No Pressure, Leakdown was OK)

EXACT THE SAME PROBLEM HAD MY FIRST D24T .

Engine warms up normally and quick, Thermostat is OK (New)

The Pipe which goes from the Back of Cylinder Head- To the Heater Control Valve- is hand warm !.
(It seems the engine does NOT Provide enough HOT water to the Heater control Valve...- its only hand-warm - not HOT.
The Return hose (Upper one) has the same temperature as the inlet... Hand warm. lol

Is here anyone, who is cold too, while driving ? :-)

I Had replaced Thermostat many times on my other Volvo... (So i can say: THERMOSTAT IS OK !)

What i dont understand is, WHY doesnīt came Warm/Hot Water from the engine to the Heater Control Valve...
I Have the STANDARD HEATING SYSTEM- No Climate unit, no vacuum Pipes.- the simplest one :)

I also flushed the Heater matrix with vinegar... Seems there is nothing blocking the water flow.

Control Cables and Heater Control Valve (Is opening ) are Okay !

I do it many Times - Bleeding the Coolant System, but still same issue

When the engine is Cold - In the morning, and i remove the Heater Hoses , there is no Water.... (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!)
I Dont loose any Coolant !.

Thanks for any Tips in Advance.
Greetings.

I searched the last 14 days the Internet, if anyone had the same issues... - Found no matching results...
It cant be possible, that i am the only one, with 2 Cars, with the same Problem !

I Have done another Test...

Head Gasket ...

When engine is cold, start it, Drive for 15 minutes, switch engine off.

Open Coolant Cap: Many Pressure- so Coolant flows out of the Expansion Tank.
While Opening the Cap slowly: Coolant in expansion tank goes from Maximum to the top of Cap (More more more - flows over ...) When Pressure is away, Coolant level is sinking to minimum...

Is this The HeadGasket ? , i do it, no Problem.

And Can cause a Defective Headgasket, that this car isnīt Heating ? :)

Greetings

When i drive now 20 KM and came back home- When i Pull of the expansion Tank Cap TOMORROW Morging- Much pressure: Tank overflows, and if Pressure is away, coolant level sinks to minimum.

Was the inoperational heater/no coolant flow from the disconnected heater hoses a problem before you performed the "Standard Maintenance?"

Maybe the waterpump impeller spins freely on the shaft?

Does the coolant overflow tank smell like old rubber, or does is smell like exhaust gasses (hydrocarbons)?

What model car?

With an emission machine or chemical test strip, you can check for exhaust gas in the coolant
Remove the heater valve and make sure it opens fully.
Are you sure all the coolant lines follow original routing?

Hi

Yes, Both Cars , i bought with "No heating" symptom *lol*

Yes the Water Pipes/hoses are original Routed.
When the Waterpump impeller Spins Freely, the Engine must overheat, or ? :)
It doesnīt- Needle is at middle (Exactly), after 6-7 Kms of driving.

Its a Volvo 740 D24T, Year 1989 :)

And Heater Control Valve is fully Opened.

I Think its the Headgasket, it makes Pressure, so Water cant Flow as it shoulds ...

about the Smell, of exhaust , i take a look tomorrow ! .
I will report.
Greetings and Thanks for the Answers.

I Do the Headgasket of a friends D24T. (past 4 Weeks)
-Funny work !

Was definitley Dead. Blows Compression to coolant-
But his Car was heating , Cabin heat very good)

When he drives, 10 km,and i open the coolant Cap: NO PRESSURE.

Mine is flowing over....
So i have the same Car,with intact Head Gasket and Cylinder Head, for Comparing things :)

He had absolutely the same Parts (Timing belts, Water Pump, thermostat, Fluids) As mine- We work on our Cars together :) - Same Time, Same Things

He should have a green coolant reservoir cap, and be at 1.5 BAR after a drive like that, something is wrong.

Hi

Yes, his Cap is dead, we have mounted my Cap (New and OK), everything is fine :)

And here Iīm Proudly present you a Dead Head Gasket. :))

I Rebuild the Cylinder Head in 3 Weeks, With Some Extras (Add a Auxiliary Water Pump, which i can Switch on / off from the Car - With a Original Switch.).
Install Webasto Park Heater.
Get New Water Cooler (Radiator ?)

Already Installed Webasto Timer:

(Have a Remote Control too)

I Made every Cooling hose new.

I do a little Documentation with Photos From it :)

I Bought this one (Auxiliary Pump): http://autoersatzteile.vehicle-data-...og-nqtdttm.jpg
