Greetings from Harare, Zimbabwe

Happy to be part of this community.
I have a 940D24TIC, 1996 that was running well, but emitting a little more much smoke than usual. One day after a long trip would just not start. 3 different mechanics failed to get the engine running again. Now the engine is in pieces, has got to be rebuild.
Will appreciate info on where to find genuine oem overhaul kit and other important hints about rebuilding the engine.

Thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you can provide more detailed description of step-by-step what happened leading up to the engine failing we might be able to give a better solution. Could be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter! :)

The 1996 Volvo D24tic, after driving well, one morning it just would not start. 2 mechanics from a local Volvo service centre tried everything and still failed until they decided to rip the engine apart. It would crank and attempts to start but would not until the battery runs flat.
The rebuilding process will include servicing injectors and diesel pump - could have been the main culprits.
Will appreciate where to get overhaul kits. TIA

Sorry this happened to you.

Did they even check the glowplugs? Did they check the transparent section of the fuel supply line for bubbles?

Sure sounds like they have little experience with these engines and are just shotgunning replacing parts.

Just because it is a "Volvo service centre" does not mean they have they have the expertise with these engines that are totally different than all the other Volvo engines.

I suggest you take control of the situation. Take this sticky to them and have them proceed in a proven logical fashion:
