Default PROJECT: Cream Puff

Well I recently saved a diesel wagon from the scrap yard. It is a 1984 245 M46/D24 with 181,xxx miles. I got it as non-running, or when it did run it smoked like hell as the owner stated.
I got it home and set all timing as the valve timing was off by 3 degrees or so and the injection timing was way off. She now starts up fairly easy and runs. She does burp hear and there... She is a little noisy but I'm starting to think it needs some injectors.
I'm not sure what the plans are for it yet, stock D24 or it may go D24T. The virgos are going on my 244 for sure. Here are some pictures.
Take a look at that air filter set up! Very interesting. I installed the stock air cleaner box.

Well I drove the car the other day and it has a good amount of blow-by, I think it might be possible there are more gasses coming out the valve cover than the tailpipe! Power was not to bad though..

dual air intake is a thing i've thought to since a long time.

the last cylinder is the one wich have the more heat from the cooling system and the hotter air intake temperature.

it's the one wich have the less quantity of air on a naturally aspirated engine.

on the VW lt 31 35 etc...it's this last cylinder wich have the air first.

it's not for nothing i think.
the airbox is in their fender but they could have plugged it on the front of the engine if they wanted.

the filter is 4 times the size of a d24 one too.
the piping is a bit bigger too.

but to use 2 inlets will disturb the intentionnally rotationnal flow created with the tiny bumps in the intake.

if you look closely you will see that they are just before each runner and if you try with a water hose to fill the intake you will make the water flow to rotate and dive in each runner.

it create a vortex helping to speed up the flow.

i need to try the two sides at the same time to be sure.
