Engine mounts
Hi,
I have a D24TIC which has been fitted (by someone else) into a Volvo C303 4x4. Now i get a lot of vibration through to the chassis, so would like to improve that if possible. I'm not sure which mounts have been used or could be used. I see 'hydro' mounts quoted for 940, like these but i'm not sure if thats the diesel model or not. Any suggestions on what to do? Sounds like a sweet rig. Do you have any info about what year the engine is? Also might help if you could post a picture of how the mounts in your truck are set up now, and what your location is so that we can get an idea of what kind of vehicles the engine could have come from. All the diesels sold in US (earlier cars through '86) used cylindrical solid rubber mounts that look more like this but I believe later European versions did use hydraulic mounts like what you pictured. Theoretically your engine could have either of those, or it also could have something completely different, depending on what parts were chosen and how it was put together by whoever initially dropped that motor in...
What transmission did they use for the conversion - the stock one from the C303? I am sure many of us on here would love to see/hear more about the setup. Welcome to the forum! Last edited by v8volvo; 11-21-2013 at 08:45 AM. Reason: added link |

Hi, thanks for the interest. I'll get some more pics in due course.
I have a pic i took last week with the body off [IMG][/IMG] Yes i'm playing with an air/water intercooler, comments welcome.. And i'd be interested to find an inlet manifold with front entry (is that the D24?) The mounts i have are not like the link you gave, more conical at the top, i'll get better pics. IIRC the motor is from a 940 circa '90's, i'll try to find a serial number. I'm in europe, the vehicle and donor motor came from Sweden/Finland Last edited by Hoss; 11-23-2013 at 01:26 PM. |

These are the mounts i have, pretty thin and rigid.
I can probably accommodate a thicker mount either by moving the bracket or letting the engine sit a bit higher. |

If you have room, look at the Cummins Dodge style mounts they absorb vibration well, seem to last a long time, and if they fail, you motor is still held in place. Get the ones for a small block 5.2 or 5.9 V8 though, the weight is closer to that of a D24. 1996 dodge Ram would be one application. supposedly they use the weight of the motor in these things to damp chassis vibrations as part of the mount design.
