Was the cog not bolted to the balancer via the four Allen head bolts? I'm really curious..

Nope, no bolts in it...clearly should have been.
Tragic to think i could have easily put them in before all of this. Last edited by Hecklebone; 03-31-2013 at 09:35 AM. |

I have removed those bolts once, on my first timing belt change. All the rest I removed the cog with the balancer. One less step, one less thing to worry about. That sure is a bummer. If those bolts where there, this wouldn't have happened. Oh well, I've done worse. I blew up a rebuilt d24t that was going to go into my 244.

Update
v8volvo has been helping me with my rebuild, since we are both in Denver.
First there is a photo of one of the pistons that whacked the valves. Then there are some pictures of the engine/tranny out of the Pinzgauer, then we cleaned up block and put the pistons in, then the crank and bearings. Notice lots of oil. I didn't get a shot with the assembly grease, but you can see it (red) squeezing out in the crank photo. Then there is the new Spanish head being decorated with injectors, glow plugs and studs. Aweful shiney. Gonna gave to paint that camo. Last edited by Hecklebone; 07-21-2013 at 03:30 PM. |

Great thread, I'm really jealous of this vehicle! Such an awesome rig deserves a fresh D24T.
I've wanted a good turbo diesel expedition vehicle for some time and couldn't find one of these, so I went with a Trooper Turbo diesel. I enjoy it but (believe it or not) actually may be slower than your vehicle with only 80 horsepower. My wife gets scared when we get passed by fully loaded double trailer semis uphill.
