Lighten flywheel while it's off of car? If so, how much to remove?
Installing a D24 into my 242, however, before the motor goes in I'm replacing a few things like all the belts and the rear main crankshaft seal.
I had read on one of the 1.6/1.9 VW IDI forums about lightening the stock flywheels since the stock unit is supposedly very, very heavy. Is this a wise thing to do to diesel (newbie to these motors) Thanks, Mike |

The D24 flywheels are heavy, I'm sure there heavier then they need to be. I'm not really sure how you could lighten it without affecting the distance between the flywheel face and the transmission though.
