Instrument panel gauges: Try banging on the dashboard-- could be cold solder joints on the instrument panel circuit board. Worked for me. Otherwise, these year range Volvos suffered from the quickly-(heat)-deteriorating Bosch wiring in the engine compartment. The engine temp sender for the gauge is the one at the front of the head, injector side, near the GP #1.
