Hi, thanks for the replies!

Overheating was caused by a coolant hose failure, not sure how long it was too hot for but apparently these problems came about straight after.

I'm going to find out exactly whats been changed. Im not sure at all where this spacer ring thing comes from. It's maybe 12mm O.D. and 10mm I.D and about 7mm long. I remember him saying it could be cut down but he removed completely so it sounds like some kind of stop.

Its apparent i need to educate myself on how the pump works and the adjustments possible.

I tried the car without the turbo connected and it's the same. It does have a very leaky injector #1 so sorting that should probably be done first of all.

Once this problem is sorted i want to service and replace parts like the fuel hoses, gaskets, seals hoses etc. but need to know its an ok engine before i spend the cash.

OK, so turned the main smoke screw down about 2.5 turns until the engine became rough at idling, turned it a bit further up so it idled nicely (have no tacho).

Now the two 'stops' i'm guessing ones an idle stop, the other is max 'request'.
I'm guessing the idle one should push the lever to make it idle at a set speed, so i'll need to turn this till it touches, then turn main smoke screw down then turn this one up till it idles nicely.
The max stop... pedal to floor, set screw there?

Injector pipe is leaking at injector one, so need to sort that.

The white plastic thing I was talking about before was from inside the LDA and acted like a stop, that needs to go back.

So now it idles but theres still smoke, guessing because of the air leak at the injector. hopefully it'll just 'nip-up'
