Default Need some help identifying things

This a picture taken of a D24 with the valve cover removed, taken from the passenger side. I’m interested in what the lever under the valve cover is? I circled it in red in the picture.
Also. There is a plug that has been unplugged sense I got the car. I have circled it in green.
And lastly, what is the item circled in purple? It’s probably something basic, but I don’t know what it is. Being that this is my first diesel, I am unfamiliar with many of the parts.

Thanks in advance guys.

Default Parts

The part you circled in purple is the Vacuum Pump.
I took a couple of photos for you. The plug you are asking about probably has something to do with your cold start device that might have been disconnected long ago, but I`m not sure if that`s the case. My car has something very similar to it: 4 wires coming `up` and 3 of them are simply cut away but the remaining one runs to the Injection Pump where on top I do have the plug that looks like yours. I hope this helps to figure out.
You can also find great info here http://www.k-jet.org/documents/greenbooks/200-series/
by downloading service manuals for your engine.

Those wires have to do with controlling the EGR system... not needed.
