Default Best fuel additive to prolong IP life?

I know on many other mechanical diesels, it is a good idea to run a fuel lubricator since the ULSD fuel sold today lacks the lubricity of the high sulfur diesel. What is the best additive for the VE pump on the D24? I've read power service grey bottle is good for most trucks, and I've also heard 2 stroke oil works well. I just want to ensure the pump is getting the lubrication it needs to live a long life.

Default evergreen question

Great that it showed up, because that`s one of my questions also.

Few yrs back, on a regular basis (OR at least on/before longer trips (1000m+) ) I always used a Gallon or two of true b99 biodiesel to do that for me (resulting running on `B5-B10` -our tank is ~15G) but i ran out of nearby sources for now.
Mostly all that`s available around here is waste-veggies with fishy filtering so I`m saying `No!`. (waste-oil/veggie fuel is not same as quality biodiesel but still called that, way too often) The factors of laziness and the risks of switching back-and-forth made me stop adding extra lubrication with fuel.

About the winterizing fluids: *Just a few days down the road after using above mentioned fuel additive (White bottle) 3 of 6 plugs successfully burned out quite suddenly, at the same time (but, they were unmolested for nearly 3yrs...never an issue before). Coldstarting action went from totally fully perfect to nearly impossible, very fast. I did not overdose the fluid. I stay away from it now, although I wasnt sad feeling some extra power. It did possibly clean out injectors too.

Every time I do shopping in sick superstores, I see clear natural oils on the shelf but wondering how much water they might have in them even if bottle says `100% oil`. Everything is getting very fake nowdays! Maybe there`s something on the shelf (canola oil etc) that we could pour into the tank at every fill-up with no surprises later. :0)
West Coast dieselers must be the professionals on using the real biodiesel stuff!

MOST ALL of the OTC diesel fuel treatments are formulated mostly of........................................... diesel fuel!

Can't find the study right now but it found 2% biodiesel the best lubrication additive for today's ULSD.

Personally I think the the whole "ULSD will destroy your IP" is a rumor. Have the mainshafts been snapping after seizing up from lack of ULSD lubricity?

My own observations show that what kills these IPs are:

1. Water in fuel, or bad BD or bad WVO.
2. Sitting too long in bad conditions.
3. Run with a clogged fuel filter (vane pump disintegrates, sending shrapnel thruout the rest of the IP).
4. Rebuilder (or tinkerer) error.

HFRR 221, 415 micron improvement.
50:1 ratio of baseline fuel to 100% Biodiesel
66.56 oz. of 100% Biodiesel per 26 gallons of diesel fuel
Price: market value

2)Opti-Lube XPD
Multi-purpose + anti-gel
cetane improver, demulsifier
HFRR 317, 319 micron improvement.
256:1 ratio
13 oz/tank
$4.35/tank

3)FPPF RV, Bus, SUV Diesel/Gas fuel treatment
Gas and Diesel
cetane improver, emulsifier
HFRR 439, 197 micron improvement
640:1 ratio

Thanks for the data! I think I'll try to find some of that optilube stuff because we don't have biodiesel anywhere close to me.

In many parts of the US now, regular pump diesel fuel contains 2% biodiesel, or in some areas it's 5% or 11%. On the state and federal level a minimum component of "renewable" fuel is increasingly being mandated.

In other words, check the label on the pump next time you fill your tank -- if it has a notice that you may be buying B2 or greater, then you don't have to do anything at all.

Thanks v8volvo, but I'm pretty sure CT still uses only straight diesel. I'll check closer next time I get fuel though.

I bought Opti-Lube Summer Blend and find it very affordable- it should save money in theory if the injectors alone last longer.

However, it smells extremely bad and it's a hassle to add to the tank everytime... so I stopped using it. Finding a pump with B2 makes a lot more sense.
