Default Garrett gt 37/40 with variable veins????

Anyone have any knowledge on this turbo? It has variable veins which as it was explained to me controls the boost instead of having a wastegate. Also I was told it came off a chevy 6500. Any help is much appreciated

Chevy 6500 what? The variable vein option is nice, however you will have to fab up a control system to operate the veins so it spools at lower rpms then opens up as the rpms increase to keep boost consistant. Even with a variable vein turbo, if it was off a huge engine (which I'm guessing a 6500 chevy anything is going to be big) it may be too big for the our 2.4 liter engine to spool.

How do I know if it is too big? Is there some math I can do? Its a really good deal and the T70 I have is good as garbage. Thanks for the input.

Just find out what size engine it came off, like how many liters. If it was a 3.0 to maybe a 4.0 liter engine, it will probably work. If it came off some monster size diesel like a huge cummins or something like 6-7 liters, its just not gonna spool.

lol, i was thinking of doing this!

I have a buddy of mine that works at a ford dealership in the fleet-truck repair shop... he said these things come in all the time... he was gonna get me one of the turbos to play with.... ill call him now and see if this will still happen.

Im sure you can get one of the tranny cables from an automatic and hook it up to one of the little throttle pulleys to control the veins...

I really doubt its too big,... just dont trim out the veins too far untill really high in the boost range... once your get the boost built up, its like a snowball effect.

however if its for like a 17L cummins big cam or some gargantuine engine like that, then yes.. its too big

what do you mean "just trim out the vanes too far"? I ended up picking it up but it has this strange flange on it, also I pulled it apart and the vanes are missing, still trying to get a hold of the guy. Will have to weld up some flanges and pipe to make this one work.

Thats a duramax turbo. No way it will spool up on anything less than 4.5l, even with vanes.
