Default Update and Advice

Hey guys, I've been quiet for a while but I need some help. I have a couple problems and I need a few questions answered. I have a huge project coming up this weekend.... I plan on changing my exhaust manifold gaskets, front main seal, and my valve cover gasket. What does the exhaust manifold hardware(nuts, bolts, etc.) need to be torqued to? And is there any specific order I should take them off? Also my engine is in a Jeep and I have plenty of work space will I still need to lift the engine to replace the front main? What about timing? I have so many questions and I would greatly appreciate even the smallest bit of help.

Thank you so much,
Nick

Why are you changing the exhaust manifold gaskets? Pull them off in this order with a cold engine: 1,6,2,5,3,4. Make sure the gaskets are lined up when installed, the studs are offset from the ports and the gaskets will fit either way but when installed wrong it will block about 1/4" of the ports, it's an easy mistake, I have seen two engines I have worked on with gaskets installed wrong. I'm not sure on the torque spec though, I will look it up in the book. Tighten manifold bolts in this order 3,4,2,5,1,6.
Is the front main seal leaking? That's not a fun job, even with the special tools. I would recommend cleaning the engine up real good and pinpoint the leak if you haven't already, it could be the valve over gasket leaking on the front and draining down the block behind the cover making it look to be the front seal.
It could also be the oil pump mounting gasket. If I were going to do any of those two gaskets it would be a good time to replace the timing belt, idler pulley, and water pump.
Find a good quality one piece rubber valve cover gasket, they seal much better then the four piece cork gaskets and are reusable.

Well my problem is an exhaust leak and something leaking on the front. I can't tell whether it's the valve cover gasket or the harmonic balancer. I believe it's the valve cover personally but I had a guy with some experience with diesel take a look and he thinks it's the harmonic balancer. I'm gonna clean it up this week and find out. I couldn't do the exhaust gaskets this weekend because the damn thing wouldn't start. It seems like a bad glow plug or two. Brake cleaner started it and once it got that first fire it purred like a kitten. Hopefully I'll be able to get under the hood tonight and find out if it really is the glow plugs.
