Default rebuilt pump and now have bad smoke and injector knock

hi all,

seal on the throttle shaft had failed a second time and also the seal on the pin for the LDA had gone leaving the LDA full of fuel, so it was time to rebuild my injection pump. all went smoothly i think - i did a bad job of marking the adjustment screws though so had a right pain getting it started and now have issues. timing has been adjusted four times now, set at 0.90mm @ no1 TDC.

constant grey smoke, worse on throttle - think retarded timing
bad injector knock but only when on the throttle - think advanced timing
lopeing at idle
long cranking to start - think timing issue
wants to stall at any sign of load unless you give it some throttle - even just turning the steering is enough to stall it

i managed to lose the marks on the gov screw and the throttle arm, didn't bother marking the max fuel as i knew it was out from having to turn the fuel down loads to get MOT passed, hence coming home with a nice new MOT certificate and promptly taking he injection pump apart!

one notch spline up on the throttle shaft and it won't idle less than 2000rpm, went one further and it made no difference to the issues. gov screw i guessed rough position from photos taken before rebuild - don't know what effect this has on running but i can't see it effecting dynamic timing which feels like the issue.

really bored of not having a car now as i've been dealing with this job for two weeks now so would appreciate any help possible!

Rich
