Default Greetings from SoCal

Hello everyone.

I'm taking over my dad's old 1982 245 Diesel wagon and looking forward to driving it for a long time to come.

Dad bought it new in 1982; it was his daily driver until he couldn't drive any longer. So it is a one-owner, well-maintained, always-garaged creampuff.

The bad news is it has only had a few hundred miles in the last 10 years, which isn't easy on a car.

So I'm looking forward to working through all the issues I'm sure I'll encounter.

In the meantime, here's a recent photo.

Welcome!
That's a nice looking wagon.
How many miles are on it?
First things I would do before too many miles get put on it: timing belt, water pump, timing belt idler pulley. Valve adjustment?
Check all hoses.

Hi Anders-

The car has 105,000 miles on it.

The timing belts, water pump, etc was replaced shortly before dad got sick; so they have just a few miles on them. So while the miles are low, they are 11 years old. I understand the risks associated with a belt failure but I'm willing to take the risk while I sort thru the rest of the car to get a good handle on the overall condition of the car.

I'll be taking it to a Volvo specialist for a once-over soon.
