Default Considering my options

Hey guys.
Im in Savannah GA and have a 1984 245 D24. Ive been looking all around the area and havnt been able to find a shop that will work on my car for me. Im worried about the timing belt snaping and also unhappy with the lack of power from the D24. Although as a whole I love the car.
So Im considering my options. I would like to find a shop that knows what they are doing, and get them to eather replace the timing belt, or swap in a D24Tic if one can be found.
So my question is: Does anyone know a good shop with in say... about 1000 miles of Savannah GA? And do you know where I could get a decent condition D24T?
Ive also looked into the 1.9TDI as a swap, but it seems like more custom work then I really want to pay for. But if you have any ideas like that, please feel free to chime in. : )

I think Tom Bryant is east coast?

Frankly, I think a shop has as much chance botching the job as you do, unless they really pride themselves on attention to detail, and have the time to learn about a car they will only ever work on one of.

After having just gone through the learning process on timing this engine I would agree; unless a shop works on these they are not going to know how to do it any better than you would. If you have mechanical skill you will need to acquire or build the necessary tools and learn how to do it yourself. I'm guessing if you are considering an engine swap you probably have the skill to learn the timing and belt replacement procedures.

Or you could drive it to Nevada and give the car to me

Well. I do have some experience working on cars. Primaraly VWs, but not diesels. The trouble is, that I dont have a space or tools to work on it. I can do small repairs out on the street, but anything more extensive and Id really rather just take it to someone and pay up. I really am willing to drive a great distance to get someone that really knows these things to work on it.
Any ideas anyone?

I'm not volunteering anybody to do the job but immediately 3 locations (closest to you) spring to mind: Maine, Colorado, Missouri; these folks have the tools, skills, and experience to replace T-belt and associated work. Don't know if that is too far?

Missouri is the closest of the three and Ive alwasy wanted to go to Maine. Whats the names of the places? Are they businesses of individuals? Closer would be better of corse, but if thats what needs to be done road trips are always fun. : )

Two are members of this forum that you could inquire via PM:

v8volvo, in CO, who I know works on D24T engines, seemingly all over the west.

and Jason, in MO, founding member of this forum.

The third is Tom Bryant in ME, many would call him the D24 guru, he has worked on these cars for years. You can find his info via the d24@elist.tufts.edu Volvo D24/D24T discussion group, here is a link to one of his recent posts there, hope it works for you:
