Pump timing adjustment without tools
I know that timing the injection pump "by ear" is possible, can anyone provide guidance as to how to loosen the pump from its mounting point for adjustment?
I'm running my engine on waste veg oil, and its getting pretty awful injector knock. the problem goes away on diesel, so the timing is slightly out. and any guidance as to how I should be doing it? I.E engine warm or cold? adjust timing, start, test, repeat until smooth? thanks before anyone says "just get the tools" they are simply not available in the UK. |

It's a dial indicator and a pin, they are available in the UK.
You might find them listed as VW tools. loosen the 3 bolts at the front of the pump about 1/4 turn loosen the nut on the rear support loosen all the fuel lines at the pump rotate the pump tighten front bolt, support, then lines. leaving the lines twisted after mucking with the timing can lead to cracks. |
