Default My Volvo doing some burn out work!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7X-fE1KFU4
with new NA manifold... Wow the off boost power is much better, and I can do a burn out now! Used to just sit and blow lots of smoke. It didn't make enough torque to overcome the rear brakes with the stock manifold. I cant make barely any boost at the converter stall speed with the larger turbo. It holds it at about 2k rpms.. Not any more!!!! Thanks Kevin for hooking me up!

2nd part of video.

Enjoy.

Jason, did you have any problems with the N/A intake clearing with the hood? Thinking of putting a N/A intake on my 760.

No problem, barely touches the insulation. I did have to bend the aluminum tube comming off the AC dryer just slightly to clear the back side of the manifold but nothing extreme.

Well worth it.

Thought about going on the dyno now that you have a good bunch of modifications done? I would be interested in what kind of numbers you are putting down now.

Any difference in the sound with the NA manifold on? At idle? I like the D24's rumble at idle better than the D24T, which is quieter. I'd like to get some of the D24 sound in the turbo motor if possible -- wonder if switching to the NA manifold might help with that.

Ya dyno time is in the future for sure once the manual is swapped in. Thats going to be happening next. The auto slips so much I don't know that I would really be able to put down any kind of decent numbers.

No real sound difference that I could tell. Maybe if the intake track wasn't so long you would hear it. By the time it goes through the tubing and intercooler there is actually less intake sound at idle than there was before the intercooler. The NA manifold didn't make any difference that I could tell in that respect.

Interesting on the idle noise not making a difference. Mine sounds like a D24 now with the N/A intake.

Maybe because your intake tract is shorter than mine? My tubing wraps around the front of the car.. Doesn't your tubing go in and out of the cooler on the pass side? You probably have a couple or three feet less plumbing it could be that.

That burnout was very inspiring. I can't wait to see your car's dyno results.

Wait until you see how a Volvo transmission shifts... if you are used to VW gearboxes you will think you've died and gone to heaven.

Back in the '80s, whenever auto magazines would give awards to automakers in various categories (best handling, best engine, etc), Volvos would always win for "best transmission." The M46 is one of the sweetest shifting gearboxes out there.

Just make sure you get a proper pilot bearing when you put it in. They are nearly impossible to find. The one IMC sells is an open needle bearing without a grease seal, so guaranteed to fail early. OEM Volvo ones had a seal, but they are NLA. I have one of the last remaining Volvo ones and have been meaning to take down it to a bearing supplier and get them to match up one that will work and has a seal. You might want to try doing something similar. You don't want to have to pull the tranny back out in a couple years due to a seized bearing.

I have only known of two D24/D24Ts, out of about 15 I've driven in the past couple years, that did NOT have seized/fragged pilot bearings. It is the weak link in the drivetrain in terms of longevity. One of my own cars is off the road right now due to a seized bearing. There are ways around the issue but you do want to be sure to find some solution that is better than getting a dry bearing from IMC/worldpac...
