Default Where is your crankcase vent routed?

Hey guys,
looking for some imput/experience here... I'm wondering where you have plumbed your crankcase vent hose. Mine pushes some oil out, and I really didn't like it in the intake, especially with the intercooler install comming soon. I don't want the intercooler coated with oil sludge. I had it dumping to the ground, but that leaves and oily mess under the car, and it is a mess in the driveway too. Next I plumbed it to the exhaust, (with angled suction style vent) but that pulled more oil out and made a bigger mess plus smoke! Now I'm thinking of running a catch can and back into the intake. I was also thinking of doing running two stock oil seperators on the valve cover instead of the one, to reduce the velocity of blowby comming out and hopefully to reduce the oil too.

Any other setups or suggestions?

Jason

Default oil-catch

I did it this way on my D24 turbo-less engine;

I took an old filter-element from a DAF-truck and scalped the top of the element.
So i got a cheap tank on top of wich i welded a cover with 2 pipes in it.
The pipes doesn't reach trough the top, just what you see is the lenght....

THERE IS ONE BIG CAUTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you have a worn out engine wich gives up a lot of oil trough the vent, you will proberbly quick fill up the catch tank.
If the catch tank is full there will be the risk of sucking up the waste-oil to the engine-inlet.IN THAT CASE THE ENGINE WILL REV> UP UNTILL 10.000RPM AND YOU WILL BREAK ALL RECORDS.
so take care of the level, or drill a small hole wich will the oil leaking-out so you can be warned by the pavement you parked on.

Jason please do some modifications on my bad english words if you have time.

In the 1,5 year i used the can,it only catched 0,5 liters of vent-oil.
The reason i placed it was the oli leaking on the exhaustmanifold causing a smell my wife hated...

That looks like what I'm thinking. I was also toying with the idea of tying the drain of the catch can into the turbo drain so the collected oil just drains back into the block. The earlier A3 TDIs had a drain pipe from the oil seperator down to the block...

Jason, et al.,

I have been eying a Mann Hummel ProVent model 200 for this very purpose. The ProVent has a filter element to catch fine vapor and a mesh to encourage the vapor to condensate into the oily residue. The residue is stored in the bottom of the can where a petcock drain is located.

Oil separator -> ProVent -> turbocharger "intake" tube. The ProVent is pricey but I figure I only need to buy it once, and new filter media every now and again.

Naturally if there is a better alternative I'm all ears!
