Default D24TiC spigot/pilot bearing size

A friend, not me honest, was getting a 'specialist' to fit a Volvo D24TiC into his LT horsebox. Nothing we have read indicates that the gearbox mating is an issue, but the garage says otherwise.

I have rummaged around for hours but cannot find the size of the Volvo bearing.

There were three sizes in the LT.

1 046 105 313 D / needle bearing (CH-engine, for example. INA F-85706, Da = 24 mm, Di = 18mm, B = 16mm ). If you order is the "embarked VIN to find the right wheel well", stated. Costs about 16 € (as of 2013). This pilot facility were Bj 1981-1988, also installed in the Passat.

2. 060 105 313 B / needle bearing f. Chassis no. »28-L-030 000 (eg. INA F-205070, Da = 24 mm, Di = 18mm, B = 20.5mm ), costs about 12EUR (Stand 2013).

3. 060 105 313 D / needle bearing f. Chassis no. »28-M-000 001 (eg INA F-215401, Da = 28 mm , Di = 18mm, B = 21.5mm ), costs about 20 ... 30EUR (Stand 2013).

I can get the engine number, probably, but is it likely to be different from the later VW ACL engine specifications. ?Why machine crankshafts differently for Volvo?

Thank you chaps.

A bit more information.

The engine is from a 1996 Volvo 940se D24TiC, which I think was mated to a Volvo M90 manual gearbox.

I know some models were not imported to the US and Canada, but I doubt that the crankshaft will have been different. The garage is telling my friend that the gearbox input shaft is too big to fit the crankshaft even without a bearing.

On a seperate note, I have a D24TiC too in my garage. I got the gearbox too but I cannot find the identification number on it. I know it is a manual but that is it.

We just bolted a D24TIC to an 82 LT, and it all works.
but our motor doesn't seem to be original to the car it was supposedly from.
IIRC the bearing had more smaller needles the LT ones.
The Volvo trans nub is the only part I have local to measure right now, and it is 17.94MM.
I did see the bearing OD's were different.

TIC motor has a '95 casting date on the head, hydro lifters, and an aluminum M46.

Now I wonder if we should pull the trans and double check....

I meant the outside, but you have an early one so loads of space under the hood.

I will do my check out Brickyard bit and raise you a VoLT Group on FaceBook. VoLT is a closed group but the are anumber of LTs on your side of the pond.
The whole vehicle will be back with Rob on Tuesday he hopes. We will see what happens then.
