Default Here to learn

Hi everyone. I'm basically here to learn more about the Volvo diesels. I'm trying to decide between buying a D24T powered 740 wagon or an OM617 powered Mercedes wagon. See you all around the forums!

Mercedes engines last longer than most volvo diesels, but rebuilding the volvo (vw) diesel isn't super expensive. Not saying there aren't D24s out there with a ton of miles still going strong, but it just seams like the mercedes engines can withstand more abuse from a maintenance standpoint. The d24T's are easier to hotrod though.

I do like the fact that the D24T is easier to hotrod! I've seen video of the 300TD in Finland that makes ridiculous amounts of power, but from what I understand it's both turbocharged and supercharged, which is unrealistic for the average person, plus that place in Finland seems to be the only place that builds the OM617 injection pump, and you have to get the European M pump to do so. Just doesn't seem all that practical, especially since it's something like $2500 to have them do your pump.
