Default Na>t

I know people have turboed a NA engine but, is the oiling system and are the pistons the same. I know Mercedes NA and Turbo lower ends are quite different.

There are a long list of differences from d24 to d24t.
The d24 crank has 2 drive cogs for the oil pump vs 4 for the d24t crank, reason being is the d24t oil pump is a higher volume for the oil supply for the turbo and pistons Cooling jets.
The pistons are notched on the d24t engines for the cooling jets, might be made from a different aluminum composition also.
The cylinder heads are different, I'm not sure what's different on them but they have different casting numbers.
Exhaust valves are different
Cam is different
The blocks are different, the d24t has the cooling jets (but these could be added to a NA block with machine work)

That being said I would not have a problem running a d24 plus turbo as long as EGT's are in check.

Thanks, I love the Volvo 240, especially the later ones. I am also a diesel nut. I would REALLY like to find a 240 that someone upgraded to a T. I currently drive a MB Diesel TD and a Jeep CJ8 with a MB Diesel TD engine (which I installed). I would install a MB Diesel in a 240 (best car and best engine) in a heartbeat except that the MB Diesels all have the sump (including the oil pump) in the front. I am rehabbing a house right now and would like to find a 240 D24T that does not need work. If I can't find one I'll stick to MB or maybe a VW.
