Default Glow Plug sound

So sometimes when I turn the key to the "On" position while cold, the glow plug light comes on and I can hear a pretty loud buzzing sound.. Sometimes it comes back after I start the car too. Anyone know what that sound might be? Sounds like it is coming from the engine bay on the driver side near the firewall. Can the glow plug relay make that kind of sound? Doesn't sound very healthy.

The solenoid is probably going out in the relay. I would replace it to be safe. If it would stick on your glow plugs will be burnt out in no time.

Oy... how much will that cost me?

We have a Volvo specialist here in town... but I'm kinda wary about going to them since the one time I did, I paid $54 for a fecking foot long heater hose ...

I looked on the tasca web site and couldn't find a listing. I can get them through my shop (archway) for about $90. I'm sure thats cheaper than the dealer. As far as replacing it, it just plugs in and there are a couple screw terminals. I priced the relay for a 760 turbo diesel, I wasn't sure what car you have.

Open the plastic cover with caution, and see whats inside.
Sometimes solders crack, and simple re-soldering fixes it.

From relay of course.
