How smart or stupid is it towing home another 740 on a 2-axle flat trailer (when towed car is FULLY on trailer,all 4 wheels)........ (OR A SINGLE AXLE when pulled car is on but only 2 wheels)....all this would be PULLED BY MY 745 with VOLVO 3500lbs towhitch setup? I never tried this. Almost 250miles.

Sounds terrible? I found a brick i like, far away. Must think smartly about hauler car too. Bad idea? Uhaul.com trailer website shit says: it is not suggested transporting 740 on a trailer pulled by a 740. I filled out a questionnare with data/info about both cars and it calculated some uhaul magic ....suggesting it is not the best setup. what do they know about bricks?idk. Actually I do.

But still, pulling home a 740 on a trailer might be some hard work for my `old` 740Wagon (any young ones out there???lol)... I got the m46 though. Better to tow with.

I got fully new susp, ok cooling system,4bilsteins with overload rear ipd springs and both swaybars by ipd. good tires,
i also got wagon recently into 850,1500,2400 and 2200m trips without trouble of cooling. some big mountain roads etc, it ran fine, car is/feels ready but never tried to pull such weight.

also, other brick is AUTOMATIC. if i choose 1-axle trailer that holds/straps ONLY 2 wheels, then it cant/must not be the rear one. I cant let tranny `burn`. Pulling 740+trailer, done by 745 while towed 740 runs on front wheels...is it legal? any dangers?

wow. long story short. i need some advice but pls dont say hey flush rad and check engine oil etc filter suspension etc. all done but never towed with this baby. the red one. other brick runs but not perfectly. towing preferred. (not only to take a few nice brick-shots LOL)

I always be use my volvos for pulling other cars and stuff once I pulled a 2tons digger on a flatbed trailer total 2,5tons on the hook only for 185km. A last week I drove 450 with a 175kg trailer to put a 1,2tons boat with me back. And im driving at the moment a 245 d24, m46 no turbo or any thing helping. Go for it

I thought so too. I remember my Dad towing home-made heavy (-duty) steel trailers loaded with wood,cement, bricks (those little square things people use to build a house ), dozen of huge 50+KG sacks of grains for farm animals but never thought about actual weight. Around 1400lbs I guess. Our m46 244 n/a took it np, also the 744 td m46, always; but I`m just still hesitating on this DC to NYC trip. I first thought it can`t be that much harder for the car than climbing big mountain roads loaded+passengers. Car was ok doing that. In Summertime.
I spoke with a pro forumer here, he suggested not doing it (risky braking,load on cooling). I felt he was not that happy to hear about the plan (he said: `I`m Sorry to kill the fun`) which made me think twice! Hitch is secured on car only by a few (rusty?) (6-8?) bolts really; although I do not have rust damage there. Using a tow dolly (instead of a real 2axle flat trailer) will help getting rid of some of total weight being pulled... hopefully more effective than removing 4 hubcaps LOL (he instructed getting the driveshaft off the hauled AT brick to be able to pull it on its rear wheels without getting the french fries effect inside the ZF)

Wagon is a d24t+m46. Cant accept the risk after all these miles she has.

IMO the limiting factor is not the hitch hardware, but the fact it attaches to sheetmetal. My 2 axle trailer weighs 2300LB without a car on it. 5500 with a brick on it gives you enough tongue weight you can't add enough ballast to the car to maintain control in an emergency. I don't think I'd use the brick to do more than move it around the yard.

I might be biased by having a truck that will tow it like it wasn't even there.
