1985 diesel 240 sedan, automatic tranny, odometer shows 127k (but the trip meter shows 000 so odometer might be stuck??----when the trip meter stands at 0 it quite often means that the odometer is not working)

I was highly interested in traveling to see this one but the auto trans and far distance from CA is what ultimately made me pass on it. Hope the new owner continues to take care of it.

Did the Volvo diesels in America come manual? Or did people have to swap that in.

A smaller percentage came to the North American market with manual gearboxes than automatics, at least for the 700 series diesels.

D24 240s also had the M46 4-speed manual + OD.

Both 200 series and 700 series diesels sold in North America had M46 gearboxes in the manual version, 200 series automatics got the three speed Borg Warner 55, with a tall 3.31 to 1 final drive ratio, 700 series automatics had the ZF4HP22, four speed, with a final drive ratio of 3.91 to 1. For obvious reasons, the 700 series with a turbocharger and overdrive ZF4HP22 four speed is the automatic version Volvo diesel to drive. With the majority of 700 series diesels sold in North America getting the ZF4HP22 automatic, a higher percentage of 200 series diesels got M46 manuals versus BW55 automatics.
