Default 85 745 engine mounts

I'm looking for a good lead on where to buy engine mounts for my 85 740 turbo diesel stick shift. I currently have just the passenger side engine mount. I ordered a set for the front and the driver side is wrong. I used a new Volvo 122 IPD HD engine mount for the transmission That i had sitting around. It worked! it almost looks like that same 122 engine mount could possibly work on the diesel also.

I had the same issue with a '83 760. Couldn't find the passenger side mount anywhere.. Rock Auto had one but it was not really right. It was very undersized, and did not hold the engine up where it should have been. I never found a good source, but did end up finding the right mount on Ebay (new). My 'Plan B' was going to be to use the transmission mount (like you mentioned). The only difference between them is the pins to keep it from rotating.

The pass side motor mount is more or less only available through Volvo and has been that way for years, part # 1273736, under $40 from Tasca. I think the reason for its scarcity from aftermarket suppliers is that it almost never needs to be replaced -- it lives under that heat shield and only ever sees compression, not tension, so seems to have a far longer lifespan than any of the other mounts.

The driver's side mount is easy to get from many aftermarket sources. I can get them for less than $6, many in stock. Should not be too hard to find... If you're not seeing it I can see if I can dig up a part number.

if I go on Rock auto it shows the front left having offset thread post. It looks more like the right engine mount when I'm looking at it. I have not removed mounts yet because I'm afraid that the left one will completely disintegrate as the metal has become detached from the rubberAnd the rubber has a large split down the center. Are the left and right mounts similar? Whats the difference between the two? Are the threaded posts on the left even or are they offset like the passenger side?

The pax side mount is taller and thicker; they are not very similar and definitely not interchangeable. Can't recall which side has the threaded studs offset from center. I've hardly ever had to replace a right side mount in a 700; they live a fairly easy and sheltered life but the left side breaks much more frequently. Does your passenger side mount look bad? Might be cheapest/easiest to just start by changing the driver's side mount if it is obviously gone, and see where you sit after that.

Don't forget about the trans mount too; those go bad the most frequently of all, and if it is sagging and compressed, that will cause the engine mounts to look bad too and wear faster, since a bad trans mount lets the whole drivetrain shift rearwards and put more shear on the motor mounts.

As I said in my original post I used an ipd HD122 engine mount for the transmission mount. I ended up finding the correct mount NIB in a box of parts that came with a car had bought. my passenger side mount was cracking and collapsed and look like a big black marshmallow, the driver side engine mount had come apart and the metal had come off of the rubber on the top section and it had a split going down the center of it and it collapsed about a half inch Vs. The new ones. Gear shanges are much smoother now with all 3 new mounts.

Default bad roads

See post #16 here. http://d24t.com/showthread.php?t=102...e+mount&page=2

I think this d24t left side mount is exactly what i paid for it. Starting from the day of installation i believe it is softer than it should be; the engine-tranny combo was capable of pulling on it a little towards the tail lights so im suspecting my tranny mount started going again.
In a year or so passed, it did not worsen so I left it alone.

The d24 mounts in the 240 looked like this. Ouch.
