Default 740td temperature sender please

Hi all
I have a 1989 740TD estate, looks like it has had a new/rebuilt engine recently. Does anyone know the Volvo/Intermotor/ScanTech part number for the temp sender for the gauge? I think the earlier engines had a sender without a lead on it - on my engine, there is no room for the type WITHOUT a lead as the alternator/power steering pump bracket sits almost on top of the sender. And also the lead from the loom seems too long - as though the female two-pin socket would originally have fitted onto the plug on the sender ON the head of the sender - without a lead. Hope this makes sense? Anyone got a good used sender I can buy please?
Thanks Simon 07896 921115 London, UK

I ran into this issue. I put an 85 engine into a 92 car which had the later instrument panel.
I hooked up the temp sender (small mushroom contact) and I thought it worked. The needle however went up into the red while the engine was warming up. i.e. it was a mismatched sender.
I finally got the right 2 wire sender (big thing) and installed it into the cold start hose with a fitting as there was no way it would fit behind the power steering/ a/c bracket.
Now everything works fine. You have to have the sender that matches the instrument panel !!
I think you must have the later instrument panel. Is it rectangular or does it have the upper corners rounded off?
If you look at my pics in the photosection, on the panel and engine pics you will see what I described.
I will look for the later sender part number.

This is the sender I have to use. (I may be on the wrong tack here)
American D24T engines date to 1985-1986 and have the sender with the mushroom contact tucked behind the PS bracket

Hi Steve
Thanks, i found a used sender near to my home, from a guy on our UK Volvo Owner's Club forum. I have the earlier dash, with the resent knobs at the base with pull out panels with the unit fixing screws behind so who knows? Cheers Simon
