Cylinderhead difference?
Hi everybody.
I am about to "refurb" a cylinderhead, for another engine I am building for my 740 GLE. The cylinderhead is a bit different from what I have seen before. The combustion chamber is normally flat, with cracks between the valves But this one is a bit concave. Do any of you know why it is concave? The cylinderhead is from a VW LT Van. /Dennis |

The only ones I have seen like that are from AMC cylinder heads, but it may also just be a newer design, the newest VW head I have seen is from 1986.

Maybe an effort to avoid the ubiquitous cracking between the valves?
However, your photo shows what looks like a crack starting at the edge of one of the valve openings.

The head is a original VW, from about 1989-1990 (if i remenber correctly). From a N/A VW. It looks like a crack starting, on the photo, but it aint. The head has been cleaned, and now the "crack" is gone.
