Question Oil temp gauge

Has anyone adapted a volvo oil temp gauge into their 740 diesel? I've found the temp sender for a gas 700 from Tasca, and could probably source the stock gauge. Of course, the drain plugs are different diameters, but maybe there would be a way to shave it down and re-thread. Anyone tried something similar? Would it be better to go aftermarket? I'm not having much luck getting good info on this.

I was originally planning to hook up an oil pressure since I obtained an 86 cluster with boost and oil pressure gauges, but it seems that oil temp would be more useful. I'm more concerned about getting into boost when the oil isn't hot then having low oil pressure, though I may simply move the boost gauge to the A pillar and have oil pressure and temp

Thanks,

Adam

If anyone searches this thread in the future the PN for the oil temp sender is 323-801-004-006D

edit: it's easier to buy a vdo 323-057 temp sender and tap it into your drain plug or the accessory plug on the upper driver side of the pan. That part number was not correct.

Default 780 cluster gauge (oil temperature gauge) into cluster of 740.

I have an instrument cluster out of a 1987 Bertone 780 Volvo.

I`ve always wanted the oil temp gauge into my 700td but never found the proper way of doing it. The 780 has been crushed since (I guess) , I only took the cluster itself with some of the wiring cut long to help figuring things out.

I didn`t know how to start with this project...
And I hated to lose the Turbo gauge on the upper right in my 740. I like the way it moves and it is a good reference.

What senders work, and how? I remember reading about a guy who makes these or something similar.
Thanks for the ideas.

I hope tasca can get me that sender. it may work somehow

I'm not sure about the 7/9 series cars but on the 240's I use a sender for the coolant temp. Some oil filter brackets have a spot to drill and tap for this. I will post a picture of my oil filter bracket with the oil temp sender.
Most get the temp by putting the sending unit in the drain plug, I'm not a fan of doing it that way.

Someone re-clocked my boost gauge to the left, so my oil temp gauge fits nicely on the right. The temp sender is coming from Latvia but once it gets here I will post pics of the install.
