Default Gasser alternator modified to D24 - How-to-guide

I had a bunch of gasser alternators laying around, so i modified one, just for shits and giggles

I thought I would make a short "how to" tutorial, with a couple of pictures.

The alternator to be modified

No W-out... Yet...

Take it apart..

Locate the three wires who sits next to each other...

You have to solder a wire to one of the three points, it doesnt matter which one... I chose the one on the picture

Pull the wire out the back of the alternator, make sure it wont be pinched or squeezed..

Ready for testing - and it works

Have fun

Great tutorial!

Did you use the pulley from the diesel alternator or were they the same diameter?

What is the amperage of the "new" alternator?

Thanks!

The pulley on the alternators a are tiny bit different in diameter. I did not think about swapping the pulleys that day, but i will do that next time the thing has to be taken apart

The original D24T 55A alternator

Amperage on new alternator: 80Amp

Later Euro market 700/900 diesels had the alternator where the PS pump is on the older US cars. All 3 accessories on the LH side stacked on top of each other, with a remote PS reservoir like a gasser 700 series.

Don't know what year this started, sometime after '86 which was the last year we got them here.

Default alternator EUROPE VS USA

I don't like the alternator being low in the us model.
I think it is smarter to have it as high as possible.
Someone could make a strong replica of the euro version for owners here in the usa.
