Default Hi All!

Just a quick line to introduce myself...

I'm Boots (real name Simon, but no-one uses that).

I had the great pleasure of owning a chipped V70 T5 a couple of years ago due to getting some inheritance. Unfortunately that came to a sticky end when some vandals in Bristol did over 5 grands worth of paint and bodywork damage to it. Lost about 8 grand on the whole business. Grrrr!

Anyhow, it did give me the taste for the Volvo estate format and I've been biding my time 'till I could save up a bit of cash for another one.

In the meantime, my supposedly retired, '84 VW Santana (Quantum in the US?) project vehicle had to be pressed back into service but the list of 'needs fixing NOW' items just got too long.

So, just before christmas I spotted this 940 advertised and took a flyer! It was only a grand with loads of service history. The guy selling seemed a bit iffy to be truthful but 2 months on the car seems all right on the whole.

There's a small oil leak from the front of the diff, the (ubiquitous?) tappety noise that isn't and I really, really want an intercooler! Apart from these bits and a somewhat saggy rear end, the car's a dream. Not a spot of rust in sight!

I'll probably post queries about the various niggles in the appropriate forums but the weather'll have to get better before I get stuck in - snowing at the moment!

I have a pretty good general mechanical knowledge (but not too much diesel oriented) and loads of experience with electrical so I'll try to help out with other folks troubles where I can.

P.S. if anyone knows of any surviving VW Santanas, however knackered, please let me know - I desperately need a donor!

Yes but divide by 5 and multiply by 4 to see it in US mpg :-)
